Back Pain

Roughly 80% of us will experience back pain at some point. The goal isn’t to mask it, it’s to find and correct what’s causing it.

Whether it’s your upper, middle, or lower back, it’s likely you’ll experience some form of back pain in your life. Nearly 32 million Americans are dealing with it right now, and it’s the number-one cause of disability in the United States. But pain is a signal, and signals have sources.

Common causes of back pain

The back is a complex structure of tendons, ligaments, discs, muscles, and bones, any of which can be irritated by severe trauma like a car accident, or by minor, repetitive stress. The usual culprits:

  • Disc bulges or herniations, like a jelly doughnut whose outer wall is damaged, allowing the inside to escape and press on nerves, often causing shooting pain into the legs
  • Subluxations, vertebrae out of position from trauma, stress, or toxins, disrupting normal movement
  • Sprains & strains, overworked muscles, tendons, and ligaments that typically respond well to chiropractic care

The stress connection

Chronic stress changes your physiology, elevated heart rate and blood pressure, altered immunity, even decreased bone density and muscle mass. It also creates muscle tension and “trigger points” in the back, which we treat with a high rate of success.

Can chiropractic help?

We believe in treating the cause of back pain rather than the symptoms. Nearly all of the causes above share one factor in common: misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine. A conservative, effective, non-invasive approach should come first, before drugs or surgery.

Structural Health

Back pain is most often a structural problem. Restoring alignment, the structural pillar of the RESTORE Way, relieves the pressure that’s driving your pain. We may combine chiropractic care, spinal decompression, and SoftWave therapy.

Common Questions

What patients ask about Back Pain

Should I try chiropractic before surgery or medication?

We believe a conservative, non-invasive approach should come first. Many causes of back pain respond very well to chiropractic care without the risks of surgery or long-term medication.

What if my pain comes from a herniated disc?

Disc-related pain is one of our focus areas. Depending on findings, we may recommend spinal decompression and SoftWave therapy alongside specific chiropractic care.
