Common causes of back pain
The back is a complex structure of tendons, ligaments, discs, muscles, and bones, any of which can be irritated by severe trauma like a car accident, or by minor, repetitive stress. The usual culprits:
- Disc bulges or herniations, like a jelly doughnut whose outer wall is damaged, allowing the inside to escape and press on nerves, often causing shooting pain into the legs
- Subluxations, vertebrae out of position from trauma, stress, or toxins, disrupting normal movement
- Sprains & strains, overworked muscles, tendons, and ligaments that typically respond well to chiropractic care
